It has been confirmed that China's Ministry of Agriculture has forecast the 2007 cotton crop at 7.0 million tons -- the provincial breakdown is not yet available. This forecast is below other estimates of 7.5 million tons and some private predictions of 7.8 million tons. It is believed 2007 harvested acreage has increased 1.72 percent to 5.53 million hectares.
