First Half 2007 Domestically Produced Textile Exports Fall 15.8 Perc

Hong Kong's textile sector suffered a further decline in domestically produced textile exports during the first half of 2007, with January through June exports totaling1.871 billion Hong Kong dollars, which reflected a 15.8 percent year-on-year decline. 55.6 percent of all exports were cotton fabric, which reached 1.037 billion Hong Kong dollars, representing a 20.4 percent year-on-year decline.

58.1 percent of all exports (1.084 billion U.S. dollars) went to China. The other top markets were Bangladesh, Philippines, Cambodia, Indonesia, Macau, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and the U.S.. Exports to Bangladesh have sharply declined, falling 34.6 percent to 85 million Hong Kong dollars.
