Taiwan's apparel sector saw monthly output stabilize above 700,000 dozen units in April and May, which represented output very near year-ago levels. April output was up 1.3 percent, while May output fell 4.6 percent. Year-to-date apparel output through the end of May was down 3.5 percent at 3,842,000 dozen.
Apparel exports continue to experience a tough market. Domestic textile and apparel retail sales have shown improvement in 2007, with January through April retail sales of textiles, apparel and accessories increasing 3.1 percent to 62.448 billion NT dollars. This reflected a rebound from a 2.5 percent drop in 2006 sales.
